At the U.S. average of $2.64 per gallon and the standard 80% fill, fuel for each common tank size costs:

Why propane prices differ by state
Propane is delivered by truck, so the distance from supply to your home is part of the price. States far from supply points usually pay more per gallon than states close to them.
Demand matters too. In cold regions, many homes need fuel at the same time during winter, and dealers' costs rise with that demand. Local competition and delivery volume also move the price.
The EIA U.S. average is weighted toward states that burn more propane, so it can sit below what households in the Northeast pay. That is why we show the New England average next to the U.S. figure.
